That Bus Was a Bust

Bus accidents are fairly different than your typical car accident and have the potential to be far more dangerous. Most buses do not have seat belts, and in some cases, people are required to stand. If you have been involved in a bus accident, there are probably several questions you are asking yourself. Did my bus driver really just get in an accident? Was it their fault? Did the bus itself malfunction? I’m hurt, can I receive compensation for my injuries? There are many factors that need to be established before determining the fault of the accident. However, those initial facts determine how much you may be entitled to.

There are two different types of compensation that may be awarded after a bus accident. You could recover punitive damages and compensatory damages. Compensatory recoveries are granted to compensate for any damages you may have sustained during the accident. This could include the destruction of personal property, medical bills, and lost wages if you had to take time off of work. Punitive damages are granted if it is found that your driver had reckless or negligent behaviors. This type of award is only granted in extreme cases and is meant to be more of a punishment for the driver that caused the accident.
