Paraquat Lawsuit Attorneys
Representing Consumers in Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C. & North Carolina
Paraquat, an herbicide used in many off-the-shelf weedkiller products, has been linked to Parkinson’s Disease. Even certain people who only used paraquat-based herbicides for landscaping and gardening around their private residences, rather than in industrial or agricultural settings, have been found to have an inordinately high risk of Parkinson’s disease compared to people who have not used it. The connection is significant enough to catch the attention and prompt the warnings of both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
If you have used a paraquat-based herbicide in any capacity and were later diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, talk to Portner & Shure, P.A. right away. Our product liability attorneys are currently hearing from people in situations much like yours and are offering our legal counsel to injured consumers in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Washington D.C. We would be happy to review your case during a free consultation to see if you have the grounds to start an injury claim or lawsuit against a manufacturer that used paraquat in an herbicide or weedkiller product.
We can work on cases involving these products that are known to contain paraquat:
- Blanco
- Bonedry
- Gramoxone
- Helmquat 3SL
- Ortho-Paraquat

How Dangerous is Paraquat?
The United Parkinson’s Advocacy Council and the American Journal of Epidemiology (AJE) have joined the EPA and the CDC in warnings of paraquat’s dangers. A study published by the AJE concluded that people who live within a two-kilometer radius of where paraquat is used in agricultural or industrial landscaping processes are 75% more likely to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease than people who live elsewhere. A similar risk may be present when a paraquat-based herbicide is used by an individual who uses it around their property. Frequent exposure to paraquat may also have a link to pulmonary fibrosis (a chronic lung disease) and other serious health conditions.
Paraquat exposure is dangerous in virtually all forms, such as:
- Inhalation
- Skin contact
- Accidental ingestion (even small amounts)
- Groundwater or soil contamination
Symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease
If you have used a paraquat-based herbicide, especially frequently, you should consider speaking with your medical provider about testing for Parkinson’s disease. The symptoms of this chronic illness can begin to gradually appear, sometimes years after the first signs of the design began.
Common early symptoms of Parkinson’s disease include:
- Full-body tremors
- Stiff muscles
- Difficulty with balance
- Speech impediments
- Unusual or rapid weight loss
- Chronic fatigue
- Memory issues
- Anxiety, depression, or irritability
Any notes that your medical provider makes about your symptoms and possible Parkinson’s disease diagnosis should be marked clearly in your medical record. When preparing a case, one of the most helpful pieces of evidence that our attorneys can use is a client’s medical record that outlines their symptoms.
Compensation in a Paraquat Lawsuit
As Parkinson’s disease advances, it can cause severe health conditions that call for a variety of treatments. Furthermore, if tremors become persistent, it may become impossible to hold gainful employment. Ultimately, the cost of paraquat exposure and the symptoms it causes can be dramatic. We’re here to help you fight for every dollar and cent owed to you, though, so we can try to alleviate as much financial and emotional stress as possible.
Compensation that we can seek in a paraquat lawsuit could include:
- Past and future medical bills
- Rehabilitative, speech, or physical therapy costs
- Lost wages and future income-earning capacity
- Medical equipment or lifestyle adjustment costs
- Pain, suffering, and lessened enjoyment of life
- Shortened life expectancy
